WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO SHOP?
Full-time classroom and special teachers (P.E., ESL, art, media, music, speech and technology) who teach with ABSS, Alamance County private or charter schools. School Psychologists, social workers, guidance, nurses, assistants or administrators are not eligible to shop.
IS THERE A MEMBERSHIP FEE?
Yes. The membership fee is $30 per teacher, per school year.
WHAT CAN I GET?
Classroom Closet is stocked with basic school supplies. The essential items listed in the catalog are mostly brand-new. However, some items have been gently used, i.e. 3-ring binders, tape dispensers and staplers. We focus on keeping the “essential” items stocked, such as: pencils, paper, crayons, glue, markers, erasers and pens.
HOW MUCH IS A SHOPPING TRIP WORTH?
Teachers can spend up to a value of $250 in supplies each visit to the online store, four times a school year. When teachers combine a “free” trip to the Classroom Closet storage site, the value of supplies could reach over $500.
WHY ARE THERE LIMITS ON CERTAIN ITEMS?
Specific items are limited to ensure that the merchandise is fairly distributed to all teachers and their students. Those items are clearly marked with the maximum quantities allowed.
WHAT IS A FREE VISIT TO THE STORAGE SITE?
At a designated time of each 9-week period, Classroom Closet will open its doors to teacher members. During this time, unique items not listed in the online catalog, will be available for the taking. These items may include STEM supplies, bulletin boards, books and other unique items. These items are free and will not count towards online catalog limits.
HOW IS CLASSROOM CLOSET FUNDED?
Classroom Closet is funded through the generous donations of individuals, corporate and private foundations, and ACE fundraising events. Classroom Closet receives no funds through any local, state or federal government programs. Local businesses donate excess gently used supplies that are no longer needed. Those supplies can be recycled back into Alamance County classrooms.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Individuals, Businesses and Organizations can support Classroom Closet by:
Hosting a supply drive with your employees or your church or civic groups.
Volunteer! Sorting and packing orders or delivering supplies to the schools. Bring a friend or a group of friends.
Sponsor a specific high-need item. When you finance the costs, we can purchase and provide it to teachers for free.
WHAT ITEMS ARE MOST NEEDED?
Basic items like pencils, markers, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, notebook paper and erasers are always in demand. Our “hard to keep stocked items” are dry erase markers, band-aids, colored pencils, copy paper and pocket folders.
ARE THERE ITEMS CLASSROOM CLOSET DOESN'T ACCEPT?
Yes. Computers, furniture, magazines, textbooks or used art supplies (open paint, dried up markers, etc.)
